“The Naughty Princess” is a slapstick nursery tale for children aged 4 to 10. The leading role is the Princess Cathy. Cathy is a typical naughty child. The theme of the play is that her naughtiness is not all her fault, she is a victim of the company she keeps, personified in the evil wizard, Diabolic, and the King who has badly spoiled his daughter. After numerous events take place, the sorcerer Elfred the Good eventually defeats the evil Wizard and makes Cathy fall in love. The show ends with a wedding party and renowned evergreen Supercalifragilistic.

The first performance of “The Naughty Princess” was in house at the “Theatre Snail” in May 1999. Since the show was intentionally designed for touring abroad, there is very little spoken text. The emphasis is placed on movements, gags, singing and dancing. Magician's tricks are employed, as well as the inevitable “chase” scene. The show features easily recognizable rock 'n' roll songs “Smoke on the Water”, “Sunshine of your Love” and “Satisfaction”, as well as three operatic arias: Carmen Habanera, the aria of the Toreador from Rigoletto and the aria of the Duke of Almaviva (La Donna e mobile). The music is live. The music is live.

What makes this performance truly international is the fact that there are only 250 words to be learned and the lines are short. This makes it quite achievable for the cast to perform in literally any language of the world. The idea is for the audience to fully comprehend the stage events, which is not always the case with foreign country visits. The storyteller tells longer parts of the intrigues. The native actor prerecords this part of the text in the language of the host country.

“The Naughty Princess” won 7 prizes at the Yugoslav festival of Theatres for Children in Kotor in 2000: for choreography, the main female part, the main male part, direction, the prize of the children panel of judges and the panel of judges of the City of Kotor and the Grand Prix.

Slobodanka Aleksic was awarded the prestigious Yugoslavian bi-annual “Bojan Stupica” award for directing “The Naughty Princess”.
